Like water and food, the quality of the air we breathe has a significant impact on our health.
Unfortunately, we do very little on this front. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, the air quality indoors, where we spend 90% of our lives is more polluted than that outdoors.
Pollutants in the air cause harm to us and given we inhale about 12000 litres of air every day, this can cause serious health issues. Particle pollution especially fine particles contains microscopic solids or liquid droplets that are so small that they can get deep into the lungs and cause serious health problems.
1. Premature death in people with heart and lung diseases
2. Irregular heartbeat
3. Aggravated asthma
4. Decreased lung function
5. Increases respiratory diseases symptoms, such as irritation of the airways, coughing or difficulty breathing.
Air pollution is like a silent killer, the impact of which starts with milder ailments like nose and throat irritation, sneezing, congestion and could take the severe form of memory lapse, mild depression and even cancer due to continued exposure over time.
